At Sunrisers, we are supporting our staff as they adapt to rapid change in the ways they work and how they deliver teaching and learning. More than 40 years have passed since Dr.R.K Shrivastava and Mrs Suman Shrivastava founded this first private school in Vidisha to provide the students with an opportunity for high-quality education. While the world and the school have changed dramatically, their fundamental values endure: work hard, without regard for public acclaim; develop all your talents, academic, artistic, and athletic; and most importantly, give of yourself to others. These principles, coupled with their belief that character, above all else, determines success in life, forms the foundation of our enduring school motto:

The school has developed the following belief statements. These belief statements contain profound ideas about how teaching and learning should take place and the type of education that the school provides. They reflect the core values and beliefs of our community which have not changed over time. Continuity of ideas and action make this a strong educational tradition. We strive to maintain an educational environment of care, trust, support, dialogue, respect, fairness, tolerance, freedom and commitment from students, teachers, parents and the rest of the school community. We expect students to live and learn in a school environment of mutual responsibility and reciprocity. These shared beliefs about a quality program are fundamentally connected to the schools’ mission and vision and help the whole community understand the nature of the school and appreciate its uniqueness.
1. Students’ learning is the chief priority of the schoolStudents’ educational needs are the fundamental focus of our work. All programs and activities are geared to providing students with a well-rounded education; gaining academic, social, emotional and physical skills over time. The curriculum supports student learning and is connected from Pre-school through High School in a clear scope and sequence of instruction which avoids repetitions and omissions. All teachers are fully credentialed to present courses in their field of expertise. This professional training is reflected in our rich academic program and modern methods of instruction.
2. Students are unique and learn in different ways Students are individuals with unique physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs. Some students learn best by seeing, others by hearing, others by physical manipulation and others in an abstract way. We believe that each student uses a combination of these senses and mental abilities. Our teachers know that it is important to vary the nature of their lessons to address the different styles of learning that they will find amongst their students. The school supports variety in education over a “one size fits all” philosophy. Humans are unique and educators need to use different approaches and strategies to reach a wide range of learning styles. The school works to generate a sense of belonging for students and families through the application of a “personal touch” which focuses upon the needs of the individual.
3. Students need to be actively taught skills of character development The school teaches boys and girls-young men and women, in an inclusive environment. This model reflects the wider community. Respect for self and others and the need to practice personal liberty within a context of social responsibility are emphasized. The school works to provide students with situations in which they can join others in positive efforts to improve the world around them. Activities requiring collaboration and cooperation bring added value to students over simple competitive skills.
4. Students learn best in a safe and respectful environment The school strives to create a system which ensures that all students are allowed to study in a safe atmosphere, with clear limits and conducive to learning The final goal is to help develop students who have self-control and take responsibility for their behaviour.
5. Students learn best when they are actively and creatively involved in acquiring knowledge Students need concrete and practical opportunities for success both within and outside of the classroom. This leads the school to also place a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities. These activities support learning in groups that share common interests such as athletics, drama, community service, clubs of various sorts and interscholastic opportunities.
6. Students must become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners beyond the classroom The school is a community of learners. The commitment to continuous improvement and learning enables students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners. Our curriculum maintains a balance between learning how to learn and learning specific facts. Students learn to integrate modern technology and research techniques. They are taught to gather, evaluate and use information ethically and responsibly.
7. Students, teachers, administrators and parents have a shared responsibility to advance the vision, mission, philosophy and beliefs of the school It is important that all members of the Sunrisers School community understand, support and celebrate the school’s vision, mission, philosophy and beliefs. Sunrisers School is a strong institution because of community support for its Model of Education.
